The Sailing Foundation Youth Racing (SFYR) is an exciting new effort intended to support Northwest junior sailors' progression to the highest levels of youth sailing. Modeled after California's successful CISA program, SFYR plans to sponsor a series of regional performance clinics for youth sailors (ages 13 - 18) focused on the development of athletic skills, leadership, and sportsmanship to promote a lifelong love of competitive sailing. The clinics will be led by top-level coaches with a proven ability to train and inspire youth racers.
The Sailing Foundation's commitment to promoting the sport of sailing throughout the Pacific Northwest will be enhanced by this effort, along with our on-going commitment to High School, Junior and Collegiate sailing. The final 2014 clinic will be held on successive weekends: October 18 & 19, at the Pumpkin Bowl, at the West Vancouver Yacht Club and October 24 & 25 in the Seattle area. At the Pumpkin Bowl, there will be coaching and video with targeted feedback for each participant. At the Seattle clinic, there will be conditioning and a chalk talk at the Seattle Yacht Club from 3:30 to 7:30 pm on Friday and then an on-water clinic on Lake Washington at Sail Sandpoint on Saturday.
The second weekend of the fall clinic will be in Laser Radials and is geared for racers aged 13 - 18. It will be coached by Olympic campaigners Isabella Berthold and Derick Vranzian, and TSF Youth Sailing Director Andrew Nelson.
