The Sailing Foundation will host a US Sailing International Offshore Safety at Sea Hands-on Training Seminar (S@S) on Sunday, February 13, 2022 on Bainbridge Island, WA. This certification is a requirement for many popular coastal, offshore, and ocean races. This course is offered in the Seattle/Portland area annually and sells out quickly.
This course is being offered as part of a ‘hybrid’ offering including both self-paced online learning and hands-on training. US sailing is in the final stage of migrating to a new online platform for the online training. We expect it to be available early in the new year and we'll send out instructions and access codes for the online course to registrants as soon as it is available.
US Sailing now requires that for the International Offshore Safety at Sea with hands-on training certificate, EVERYONE needs to complete the newly released “Online Safety at Sea" course part two (Units 11 – 15). This includes those that are refreshing (renewing) their certification.
This online training and its post-assessment MUST BE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED by Thursday, February 10 at 1200 noon PST to qualify for participation in Sunday’s hands-on training. Allow 12 to 16 hours to complete the online course part one and 3 hours for part two.
Everyone desiring an International Safety at Sea certificate MUST complete the newly released International Online Safety at Sea Course (Units 11-15) in order to be eligible to receive the new certificate as per the policy approved in 2020 by the Safety at Sea Sub-Committee and Offshore Committee of US Sailing. This policy went into effect on January 1, 2021.
Therefore, we offer three registration options and prices.
All 3 options include the following items:
*Note regarding renewals: If you received previous US Sailing International Offshore Safety at Sea certification within the last 10 years, you may sign up for a renewal class. To register for the renewal class, you'll be prompted at registration to provide us with the name on the certification and year you received it. You can find this information on the US Sailing SaS Attendance Lookup Page.
**Note regarding Option 3: During registration, you must provide us with the date of completion for both parts 1 & 2. You can find this information on the US Sailing SaS Attendance Lookup Page.
