The Sailing Foundation is hosting two hands-on training dates in March 2023. See below for details...

Overview

Safety at Sea Courses are for everyone:  Cruisers, Power boaters & Sailboat Racers. These in-person days include a full day of hands-on training, including in-the-water exercises, lunch, US Sailing’s book Safety at Sea: A Guide to Safety Under Sail and Personal Survival, and certificate from US Sailing. Two available Dates/Locations for hands-on training:

Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Bainbridge High School/Pool, Bainbridge Island, WA
Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Marshall Center, Vancouver, WA


Bruce Brown will be the US Sailing moderator on both dates. Cost for the hands-on training is $300 per person.

Online Pre-Requisite Course (Must Purchase Separately)

Participants MUST purchase and complete the online prerequisite course and provide their certificate of completion 2 weeks before attending the hands-on training. The online courses are provided via US Sailing and may be purchased directly using the links below. 

  • If this is your first Safety at Sea certification, the prerequisite to complete Chapters 1-15
    of the online learning "Offshore" course, covering fifteen core topics. Approximately 12-
    13 hours to complete, self-paced.
  • If you are renewing an existing or expired (issued within 10 years) Safety at Sea
    certification, you will be required to complete Chapters 11-15 to serve as your
    ‘refresher’ for the course material. Take the "Offshore Upgrade" course, consisting of
    five topics. Enroll with proof of prior certification found at “US Sailing SAS attendance
    lookup”.
  • US Sailing members get a discount on these courses with the discount code found in
    your "My US Sailing" account under Member Coupons and Benefits.

 

Cancellation/Rescheduling

After registering, you may reschedule up to two weeks before the date of your scheduled in-person hands-on course to another course we offer in 2023. You may also cancel for a partial refund (your registration fee less 5%) up to two weeks before your scheduled in-person hands-on course. Cancellations within 2 weeks of course are not eligible for refund.
